You are invited to attend:

Consultative Seminars on the proposed new Incorporated Societies Act

Hui E! is organising a series of consultative seminars to get your feedback on proposed changes to the legislation covering Incorporated Societies.
We are working with MBIE (the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) who have been given the task by Government to update the existing 1908 legislation, and with Charities Services from the Department of Internal Affairs.

“The seminars will be a great opportunity for people involved in Incorporated Societies to hear what the key issues are, to give feedback on the spot, and to learn enough to be able to make their own responses” says Dave Henderson, who is Hui E!’s lead person on the project.   “We are encouraging all organisations that are registered as Incorporated Societies to make submissions, and the information at these seminars will help”, says Dave.

There are 25 seminars planned, in 8 cities, starting with Christchurch on 25 February and spread through to 11 May. The seminars are 2 hours long, and they are FREE!

Next Steps:

Submissions on this “Exposure Draft” of the new legislation will close on 30 June 2016;  MBIE will then look at all the submissions received, and the feedback from these 25 seminars, and make changes to the Draft;  The amended draft will go to MBIE’s Minister, who will put it into Parliament’s schedule;  Parliament will give the Bill a “first reading” and likely refer it to a Parliamentary Select Committee for detailed consideration. The Committee can seek further submissions.  The Select Committee will report back on the Bill back to Parliament for a “second reading”, and Parliament will have the opportunity to debate it, before it is passed. This process will likely take well into 2017 at the earliest, but if you are looking at updating your constitution in the meantime, we recommend you consider including the proposed new provisions. Meanwhile, we look forward to meeting with you at one of the seminars.
