An update on the merger of MNZ and NZNN

“Joining Multicultural New Zealand at the end of last year has been a great experience for us so far” says Andreja Phillips, National Manager, New Zealand Newcomers Network (NZNN).
" I am looking forward to continuing to work in this collaborative spirit and to help bring the RMC's, Migrant Centres and Newcomers Networks closer together.”
The second national ethnic community organisations’ combined hui is being held in Nelson in May and will be a wonderful opportunity to build on the progress we’ve made. . Please click here for the programme plan.
MNZ’s alliance of networks is steadily growing and we now have 56 grassroots outreach programmes – 20 RMCs and 36 networks, with the most recent addition in Alexandra/Central Otago in January.
Newcomers Networks focus on social connection of newcomers from outside and within NZ, while MNZ focus on advocacy of rights, celebration of cultural diversity, settlement, integration and participation. These two different approaches walk together side by side, both supporting ethnic migrants/refugees/newcomers with their settlement and settling-in outcomes and thus forming a beautiful whole.
There is also interest in creating new networks in South Auckland, Kapiti Coast and Clutha, and RMCs in Porirua and Hastings that we will continue to work on this this year.
Andreja Phillips' role as the National Manager of the New Zealand Newcomers Network is to support all the volunteer regional coordinators, doing their fantastic work in organising and hosting events and activities for newcomers whether from overseas or from within New Zealand in lots of different ways.
