The Beginning of Neighbourly Morning Tea
The inaugural MNZ Neighbourly Morning Tea took place over Labour Weekend.
The Neighbourly Morning Tea is a very simple way of getting to know your neighbours and connecting with people from different or similar cultural and ethnic backgrounds while also fundraising.
The 2016 campaign had around 130 morning (and afternoon) tea events with an average of 10 people. Tea and coffee were supplied by our sponsors Bell Tea and Jed’s Coffee. We would like to thank our sponsors and donors, as we were able to fundraise around $3,000.
Multicultural New Zealand and NZ Newcomers Network intend to repeat the campaign annually with the aim of creating another platform/opportunity to bring our communities together.
Here is a feedback we got from one of the event hosts:
I am writing to thank you and your sponsors for initiating the Neighbourly afternoon tea which we held yesterday.
Having moved into our Gulf Harbour neighbourhood last Dec, and realising that most of our neighbours had not met each other, your initiative provided us a good excuse to get everyone together.
We had 6 of our neighbours attend and it was a real melting pot of different nationalities – Russian, Chinese, English, Malaysian/Singaporean, NZrs.
We suggested they bring a dish from their culture so the food spread was amazing and delicious, and very much enjoyed by all.
We thought you would like a photo of our group to see how happy everyone was.
So thank you again and we shall be contributing $100 raised from the event to you.
Fran and Jon
