Multicultural New Zealand (MNZ) with more than 30 years of standing as a New Zealand wide community organisation is aware of some community issues which have cropped up from time to time in the past.

MNZ President Pancha Narayanan says, “As many of you may be aware, often there are a lot of potentially uncomfortable conversations and sharing of videos, articles and comments happening on social media and in community newspapers (local and international) centred around a movie called – ‘The Kashmir Files’. MNZ has received several calls and have been asked for an opinion.

“My advice to the communities is this:

  1. This film it’s not centred on a topic that happened in New Zealand or is about New Zealand.
  2. If anyone has an opinion or concern in favour or against this movie, our request is that they kindly direct their communication to the Chief Censor at the Classifications Office of New Zealand. Website give below: https://www.classificationoffice.govt.nz/about/
Everyone and every community group has access to this agency.
  3. Please do not forward, share or express any views officially or otherwise as leaders of any community group or as individuals through any social media channels or otherwise.
  4. Participating and contributing to this discourse could inadvertently contribute to (or exacerbate existing) disharmony in the community.
  5. We are about community safety. Let’s continue focussing on assisting people in achieving better settlement outcomes, particularly for those who are suffering from the impact of COVID-19.”
