Kiwis Invited to Host a Neighbourly Morning Tea to Celebrate Cultural Diversity
Media Release I 27 September 2016
In the face of a housing crisis, immigration concerns and the plight of refugees, Kiwis feel it is time to celebrate the immensely positive role migrant communities play in making New Zealand a wonderful place to live.
This Labour Weekend members of the public are invited to a host a ‘Neighbourly Morning Tea’ to help bring their neighbourhood together, including those who might be migrants, newcomers or refugees.
With much focus on migrant communities at the moment, it is important we take time to reflect on the positive role ethnic minority groups play in New Zealand and celebrate our open, diverse society.” Said Alexis LewGor, National President of Multicultural New Zealand.
“The Neighbourly Morning Tea is a very simple way of getting to know your neighbours and connecting with people from different or similar cultural and ethnic backgrounds.”
“Aotearoa is a rich and diverse country. We are blessed with a huge range of ethnic communities from all corners of the world and who all contribute to our society in different ways. We are richer, stronger, wealthier and more innovative because of our diversity.”
Anyone can register to be a host of Neighbourly Morning Tea on the Multicultural New Zealand’s website http://multiculturalnz.org.nz/Neighbourly+Morning+Tea
and https://www.facebook.com/neighbourlymorningtea/?fref=ts. The hosts will be provided with everything they need from sponsors Bell Tea and Jed's Coffee. Multicultural New Zealand can also give hosts suggested names of people from ethnic backgrounds or newcomers to invite within nearby neighbourhoods.
The Neighbourly Morning Tea is helping raise money for Multicultural New Zealand to promote the economic and cultural contributions made by migrants, newcomers and refugees in New Zealand.
Multicultural New Zealand is a registered charity – CC36978.
